“Ethical social work means protecting a child’s right to a natural language—ensuring full access to the world, even when systems fail to provide unbiased guidance.” Dr. Charleen Sculley, DSW
Mission statement:
To equip parents of Deaf and Hard of Hearing children with unbiased, evidence-based guidance so they can make informed decisions that protect healthy language development and strengthen family attachment.
Vision Statement:
A world where every Deaf and hard-of-hearing child has full access to language, belonging, and opportunity.
Every child deserves full access to language from the very beginning. We support families in
building strong communication foundations through accessible, early language.
Language is essential for brain development, learning, and connection. Deaf and hard-of-hearing
children need early, consistent, and fully accessible language, including visual language such as
sign language.
We help families and professionals:
Understand why early language access matters
Explore communication options with clarity
Ensure access is real, not assumed
Our focus: preventing language delays before they begin.
Families deserve support that is respectful, clear, and free from judgment. We provide guidance
that helps parents make confident, informed decisions.
Every family’s journey is unique. We meet families where they are by offering balanced,
research-informed guidance that respects their values and goals.
Our approach includes:
Listening first
Providing unbiased information
Supporting informed decision-making
Our focus: empowering families, not directing them.
Families should never feel pressured into decisions. We help protect your right to full
information and thoughtful choice.
Many families encounter pressure from systems that can limit options or delay access to effective
communication. We work to ensure decisions are made with complete information and the
child’s long-term needs in mind.
We support families by:
Promoting true informed consent
Identifying bias or gaps in recommendations
Encouraging confident advocacy
Our focus: protecting both the child’s access and the family’s voice.
